RCBO Consumer Unit Upgrade in Stockbridge
Modern 18th Edition board in an Edinburgh tenement flat
Location Stockbridge, Edinburgh
Completed May 2026
Service Consumer Unit Upgrades
Scope Replace split-load board, fit 12-way RCBO unit, retest all circuits, EIC + NAPIT notification
The Brief
A Stockbridge tenement flat had an older split-load consumer unit with two RCDs and ceramic fuses on the lighting circuits. The owner wanted RCBO-per-circuit protection, a tidy install in the limited cupboard space, and the work signed off so the property could be re-let on a new lease.
What We Did
Our work included:
- Site survey: confirmed the existing supply, circuit count and cupboard space.
- Power-off slot: booked with the owner so the freezer and work-from-home meetings were protected.
- Stripped the old board: identified and labelled every circuit conductor before disconnection.
- Fitted a 12-way RCBO consumer unit: with Type 2 surge protection on the incoming bus.
- Tested every circuit to BS 7671: insulation resistance, continuity, polarity, earth-loop impedance, RCD trip times.
- Issued the EIC + notified building control: same day, via NAPIT, lodged on the owner's behalf.
The Result
The flat now has individual-circuit RCBO protection. A fault on any one circuit only trips that one, not the whole property. The certificate is on file and the install is guaranteed for six years against workmanship.
Job Duration: One day on site, including testing and handover.
