7kW Home EV Charger in East Lothian
Smart 7kW Ohme install with load management
The Brief
A family home in East Lothian had taken delivery of a new electric car and wanted a 7kW smart charger on the driveway. The supply was already loaded with a heat pump, so load management was needed to keep the property within the supply's main fuse rating during peak use.
What We Did
Our work included:
- Site survey: incoming supply, consumer unit, cable route from meter to driveway.
- Specified an Ohme Home Pro tethered charger: chosen to suit the family's Octopus Intelligent tariff.
- Fitted a dedicated 32 A RCBO and Type B DC RCD module: on the consumer unit.
- Added a load management module: current-transformer based, backs the charger off when the heat pump is at full draw.
- Ran SWA cable from the consumer unit to the driveway: in tidy chase and trunking, dressed and clipped.
- Commissioned the charger on Wi-Fi: set the off-peak schedule, walked the family through the app.
- Issued the EIC + notified building control: via NAPIT, same day.
The Result
The family charges overnight on the cheap-rate tariff with no risk of tripping the main fuse. The install is OZEV smart-charging compliant. The charger carries the standard three-year manufacturer warranty plus our six-year workmanship guarantee.
Job Duration: One day on site, from survey-confirmed cable run to commissioning.
